It's important for us to see that God has not changed. He deals with Christians in the same way as he did with the children of Israel. That's why we see many of the words in exodus used again in the New Testament words as law, covenant, blood, and Passover. Let's remember the words of Jesus in Matthew “I did not come to destroy the law but to fulfill it.” In short, we cannot understand the New Testament without the old. Paul actually reflects on some of the events and exodus in his writing to the church at Corinth and he said these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. On the other hand, it's much easier in some ways now because we don't need a great number of priests or rituals or special buildings. The apostle John wrote “for the law was given through Moses grace and truth came through Jesus Christ” so when we pray now we can enter the holiest place of all unhindered in the name of Jesus.

During Job's speeches, he asks God to speak with him 36 times. He gets his wish. He wants to put God on the stand and he claims that he would be able to win a case against him. Job finally realizes that his questioning of God was totally inappropriate and he despises himself and repents.

Despite what's going on in the world, God is in control. He sees it all and He is at work. God does not operate like man. His thoughts and ways surpass that of man. They are much higher. He allows things to happen for a time and for a purpose. He knows what He's doing at all times. He not only knows what was, and what is, he also knows what will be. God knows everything we do. He is constantly looking down and seeing what we do and He keeps a record of the innermost secrets of our hearts. We need to be mindful of that. “The Lord searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts” (1 Chronicles 28:9) Right now, the world is struggling but God is still in control. “The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good” (Proverbs 15:3). He sees what's behind us and what's ahead of us, all the threats and dangers, all the worries and woes.
Even when we are in the middle of stressful situations God’s will can be fulfilled in us. In the midst of difficulty and hardship, when things seem to be going the wrong way it is in these circumstances, God can be working His purpose out in our lives. Whether that be financial problems, illness or other uncertainty, as it might be for us today. God’s master-plan can still be unfolding in a way that we would never be able to comprehend, until later in time when we look back at some point in our future.
"Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!" (Rom 11:33) "Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need." (Heb 4:16) "And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)

Jesus not only spoke many times about the future, He also rebuked people who didn't seem to recognize the significance of the events taking place around them. If God doesn’t help you, you will fail. This is the crisis point where many decide not to follow what they sense God is leading them to do. Then, they wonder why they aren't experiencing God’s presence and activity the way other Christians do. The word crisis comes from a word that means “decision.” The same Greek word is often translated judgment. The crisis of belief is a turning point where you must decide what you believe about God. How you respond will determine whether you go on to be involved with God in something God-sized that only He can do, or whether you will miss what God has purposed for your life. This is not a one-time experience. It is a daily experience. How you live your life is a testimony of what you believe about God.

Unfortunately, taking the Lord's name in vain is an everyday part of our culture. Many people have no idea of the serious implications and they truly believe there is no harm in using the Lord's name as a slang, curse word or in casual speech.
The Bible tells us that one day we will all stand before the judgment seat of Christ and we will give an account of every careless word spoken. This one word used inappropriately has significant eternal consequences considering that it is one of the ten commandments. The name of the Lord is Holy and is to be honored and revered and used in no other way. There are consequences for willfully sinning after you have a knowledge of the truth. This is not a light-hearted matter.

I have a difficult story to share with you. I feel compelled to share it because I believe there is someone who needs to hear it. We lost our 18-year-old daughter to a Heroin overdose just a few months ago on Sept 29, 2018. Since then, I’ve had several of her friends reach out to me. Some who are struggling with addiction, some recovering, and I’ve had multiple parents contact me asking for advice because their children are on Heroin and they don’t know what to do.
So Here’s our story…
There are moments in life that mark our path. Moments when time is divided into two parts, before this and after this, and you realize that nothing will ever be the same. I didn’t realize the last time Caroline and I talked it would be our last. We didn’t know the next morning God would call her name.
